Why write a Film (Movie) Journal

Dear Fellow Journalers,

A film diary is a personal journey. Why? Films are full of life – characters (real or imagined) with thoughts and feelings, actions, desires and don’t forget the theme and the surroundings. Films can change a life (ie: Pay it Forward, Bridge on the River Kwai, or God Father). I’m not sure why I put the last film except guys seem to like quoting from that movie, for some reason! The films above are all different, yet 2 portray real people and all make you think. See links:

Writing about the movies (films) you watch can reflect your current outlook on life, which can change over time. Writing your thoughts about a character is akin to writing about your neighbor. Some people only journal about the medium of the film but it’s not a fact that should you forget. Character development is important but the aesthetics are just as important. The time period may be one you’ve studied about in school and suddenly because you watched a film set in the Victorian era or the wilds of Australia may push you into learning more about that time period. Below is a list of movie genre so you can start exploring!

Action  adventure  advant garde  comedy   crime   drama   epic  family  fantasy  historical  horror  musical  mystery  romance  science fiction  spy film  thriller  war western

‘Til next time,

~Sallie
