Life Challenge Journal

Dear Fellow Journalers,

As most of you can attest, we’ve talked a lot about choices, challenges, life, hobbies – in short “the kitchen sink ” of life’s journals in this forum. During this “Stay home, stay safe” quarantine we’ve all had to “double down” in our resiliency to isolate ourselves from ourselves. We can’t let ourselves become complacent.

Some of us have been creative in stepping up to the plate and taking care of relatives, friends, elderly family members, neighbors, complete strangers, not to mention first responders.

The other problem we have is that in our personal life we face our own set of goas or lack therof.

“The life of every man is a door in which he means to write one story and write another, and his humbled hour is when he compares the volume as it is with what he vowed to make it.”
J.M. Barrie

You know exactly what you want in life but you can’t seem to get there. In this world-wide health epidemic, the future attainment of your goal seems impossible to bring to fulfillment. “You’re going to get healthy.” “You’re going to be more organized.” “You’re going to stop smoking.” “TODAY IS THE DAY” you tell yourself and yet today becomes tomorrow… You feel slightly like a fraud to yourself.

This idea of journaling every day to overcome these habits becomes more and more apparent. We all know by now how important journaling has become to us. This whole idea of writing a daily journal to overcome personal challenges became apparent to me in two ways several months ago when I was faced with a challenge to do something scary (to me) and the successful challenge a friend overcame.

My dear friend “D” wrote about her challenge last month. She quit her very successful yet very stressful job at a large company, hired a company to build her new home in a different state, sold her house and moved to her new community to start a new life. Soon she will be celebrating her first year of residency in her new state.

I decided to do something less extreme but somewhat challenging and write a story on a fan fiction site. Other than this blog I haven’t written anything like a story in maybe forever.

You owe it to yourself to be the best person you can be. So don’t isolate yourself from yourself and keep writing!
