One of the things that we insisted on was that every one would be involved in the making and writing of the Maroney Happiness Journal. Here are some ideas we used that might help you:

Dear Fellow Journalers,
I have always thought that this “poem” by Roy Croft expressed all that I wanted to say on this special day.
I love you, not only for what you are but for what I am when I am with you.
I love you not only for what you have made of yourself but for what you are making of me.
I love you for the part of me that you bring out; I love you for putting your hands into my heaped-up heart and passing over all the foolish, weak things that you can’t help dimly seeing there, and for drawing out into the light all the beautiful belongings that no one else had looked quite far enough to find.
I love you because you are helping me to make of the lumber of my life not a tavern but a temple; out of works of my every day not a reproach but a song.
I love you because you have done more that any creed could have done to make me good, and more than any fate could have done to make me happy.
You have done it without a touch, without a word, without a sign. You have done it by being yourself. Perhaps that is what being a friend means after all.
Dedicated to my husband.

Dear Fellow Jounalers,
Mary Beth is a reader and likes to underline and mark up her books (sounds like me!) Anyway, here are a few quotes from her favorite books about family:
Enjoy,
Sallie
“Happiness is only real when shared.”
“I may not always be with you
But when we’re far apart
Remember you will be with me
Right inside my heart.”
“I sustain myself with the love of family.”
“This is part of what a family is about, not just love. It’s knowing that your family will be there watching out for you. Nothing else will give you that. Not money. Not fame. Not work.”

Dear Fellow Journalers,
Mary Beth has a few suggestions on how to not only get the kids involved in journal writing but also to keep them engaged in the process.
Enjoy,
Sallie
One of the reasons we started the family journal was to engage all the kids in the writing of our journal. We did not want them to view it as a chore but rather something that would hold their interest and to realize that it was becoming a living representation of our family. That may sound corny, but when I look back on it, the journal became an insight into our children’s lives and helped them all connect with each other through the different stages of their lives.
Some ideas we used are:
Take the journal out to dinner and do family surveys while waiting for the food to arrive.
Trace everyone’ s hands onto a page starting from the largest to the smallest. Make sure to date the page. We actually did this one the first page of our journal.
Create a chart to keep track of height, weight, shoe size, clothing size etc.
