Reading Prompts

Dear Fellow Journalers,

The following are some prompts that you can use in your Reading Journal to make the entries more informative:

  1. What is your favorite (or a few of your favorite) books and why? How many times have you read it and how does it make you feel when you flip through the pages? What would you tell someone when you’re recommending this book to them?
  2. What is your least favorite book? Why are you so turned off by it? Now imagine that you are forced to watch a movie version of the book. Describe your experience.
  3. A friend has recommended that you read a book that he says is “completely amazing!” The book is anything but. What do you tell your friend and does this experience change your opinion about his tastes?
  4. You have been transported into one of your favorite books as a character of your choosing. Who are you and what happens to you during your adventures? Describe in extreme detail.
  5. What is your favorite place to read? Why is it the perfect spot?
  6. You are walking down the road and you come across a group of kids that are burning books. What do you do next?
‘Til next time,

Creativity Prompts

Dear Fellow Journalers,

It’s been awhile since I shared some journal prompts with you so here goes!

Grab your journal

Get a pen/pencil

Get a timer and set it for 3 minutes

On your mark, get set, write!

     1. What made you feel good this week?

     2. If you could have dinner with anyone currently alive, who would you invite?

     3. How much old baggage are  you carrying around? What can you give back, give away or sell today?

and finally, (this one is deep- there always has to be one right?)

     4. If you were handed a sealed envelope with the date, time and cause of your death inside, would you open it – even if there was nothing you could do to change your fate?

‘Til next time,

~Sallie

P.S. I welcome your thoughts.

Prompts

Dear Fellow Journalers,

The following 3 quotes are inspirational:

” A word has power in and of itself. It comes from nothing into sound and meaning. It gives origin to all things.”

N. Scott Momeday

” No thief, however skillful can rob one of knowledge, and that is why knowledge is the best and safest treasure to acquire.”

L. Frank Baum

” I am no bird, and no net ensares me. I am a free human being with an independent will.”

Charlotte Bronte

Prompts for your Memory Jar- writing a letter

Dear Fellow Journalers,

How long has it been since you wrote a letter? I don’t mean an email either. I got to thinking about that topic earlier this month. I remember a time before the internet (yes, I am ancient!) when I actually used nice stationery and a pen to write letters. Nowadays, the most writing with a pen that I do is writing sentiments inside greeting cards!

Write a Letter to:

  • Write a letter to someone you need to forgive.
  • Write a letter to someone who believed in you even when you didn’t believe in yourself.
  • Write a letter to be read by each of your loved ones after you’ve passed away.
  • Write a fan letter to your favorite actor/actress.
  • Write a letter to the editor of your favorite magazine telling them what features you would like to see included in the magazine.
  • Is there something you’re reluctant to tell someone?  Write a letter to help y0u organize your thoughts.
  • finally, write a letter to yourself. Tell yourself what you are going through emotionally at this time, what you want to do and what you have accomplished. If you want to write down a secret wish for the future.

‘Til next time,

~Sallie
