Wednesday words to live by

“A lot of walking away will do your life good.

Walk away from arguments that lead you to anger and nowhere. Walk away from people who deliberately put you down. Walk away from the practice of pleasing people who choose to never see your worth. Walk away from any thought that undermines your peace of mind. Walk away from judgemental people, they do not know the struggle you are facing and what you have been through. Walk away from your mistakes and fears, they do not determine your fate. The more you walk away from things that poison your soul, the healthier your life will be.”

Constructing the Quote Journal

Dear Fellow Journaler,

Putting a quote journal is fairly simple – except for the collection of the quotes themselves! This could become a life-long addiction! (in a good way). My tips are:

  1.  Buy one with a sturdy cover, as you will be opening and closing it often. If  you decide to make your own and have been following this blog regularly, then you already know that you need to include watercolor paper and lots of lined paper as well.
  2. Don’t just write the quotes, draw them too.jennifer-frith-sketchbook-art-journal-pages
  3. List the author and remember it’s okay to write “unknown”.
  4. If you have a friend who has a favorite author, why not make a quote journal for them. (This is a useful idea!)

If you have a preference for particular themes, divide the pages up or better still, use pre-drilled 3- hole punched paper for the book.

If you already have a quote journal, please feel free to comment!

‘Til next time,

~~Sallie~~

Famous people unsent letters

Dear Fellow Journalers,

Lest you think that you’re the only one who’s faced their inner demons of writing un-sent letters take heart. Several famous people have written these missives but instead of destroying them, kept them for us to read many years later.

Abraham Lincoln composed “hot letters” which later became “Never sent. Never signed.” According to Doris Kearns Goodwin of NPR, Lincoln dumped all his feelings on paper, then set it aside until he cooled down. Good thing too. One of those un-sent letters blamed General George Meade for letting Robert E. Lee escape after Gettysburg.

Mark Twain was as famous for penning “unallowable frankness and freedom” as he was for Tom Sawyer.

Harry S. Truman once almost informed the treasurer of the US that “I don’t think that the financial advisor of God himself would be able to understand what the financial position of the Government of the US is, by reading your statement.” He also was tempted to send the following to Senator Joseph R. McCarthy. “You are not fit to have a hand in the operation of the Government of the United States. I am very sure that the people of Wisconsin are extremely sorry that they are represented by a person who has a little sense of responsibility as you have.”

Wow, can you imagine if that letter had actually been sent! The effect of all these letters is the same- anger, release, PEACE.
