Dear Fellow Journalers,
So, I’ve got a question for you. Did you try and write a letter last. week? Did you think about who you would write?
So, today we’re talk about what to include in your letter. Some suggestions include:
1. Make a paper chain or a banner to celebrate an event. Make it super small so it fits into an envelope. It will be a mini celebration!
2. Send a postcard. You can send this in the letter or separately. It is always fun to receive one of those majestic scenic postcards in the mail.
3/ Kid’s artwork. I love receiving artwork from my nieces and nephews. Our refrigerator is like a little museum. If you have kids, before you toss that latest masterpiece because it is cluttering the counter top, consider sending it to Nana or Auntie. You could also take your child’s art and make it into a card.
6. Send a poem or write down the link to a great song.
Next week – how to give that letter some character.

Dear Fellow Journalers,
Several years ago, I wrote a blog post about unsent letters. It was rather popular. Anyway, so began to wonder the other day if anyone wrote letters anymore? Did anyone even buy fancy stationary and write to someone with a pen and mail the letter?
Now, A letter is very different from an email. For one thing, you can’t hold the email in your hand. It’s also not personal. Anyone who has access to your password can read your emails. Sometimes email writers use text symbols ie: BTW for example. A letter writers uses whole words and can send actual items like movie tickets, dried flowers etc. And while emails are quick to write and receive, a letter can take up to 10 days for your recipient to receive.
If you’ve never written a letter or have forgotten how, don’t worry. Here are a few ideas:
1. Always start with inquiring how your friend/relative is. Ask about the weather. Did they get as much snow/rain/wind /heat as you.
2. Describe a new favorite place to visit. Maybe you just discovered a fun coffee shop or a little courtyard where you can sit by a fountain and write. Write about it!
3. The latest and greatest antics from the kids (or pets). You’ll probably naturally add this in. Did your toddler just start counting to twenty out of nowhere? Has your cat decided it will only eat its food when no one is looking? Random, but funny moments are fun to read.
4. Include pictures of your children or your pets. We seldom print our pictures anymore but learning how is a fun activity and your recipient will thank you.
5. Talk about your latest project. Are you still in school? What’s your favorite subject? Are you crafting something for a fair? Or writing a story? Discover a new recipe?
Next week we’ll talk about what to include in your letter.

It’s a beautiful day, bright, sunny, and clear. Temperature is just right, humidity perfect.
It’s been a long trip to get here, here to my home. Only five days ago I was with my buddies, in the combat zone, fighting for our lives. In this place where we couldn’t even pronounce the name, it’s now a place we will forever associate with hell.
But now it’s home for me. My time in hell complete. Oh the people, Oh the memories my home holds for me. It is a place of comfort, love, and finally peace.
My Mom, Dad, Sis, Brother, Girlfriend, and all my old friends have come for my return. They gather around close, some have tears, for I have returned and the fear I might not has vanished. Indeed in their mist all my troubles and fears of the last year are over.
But what’s this? They have removed something from me and are folding it reverently. I am being slowly lowered, and dirt is being shoveled in to cover me.
I am a soldier, and I have returned home.
