How often do you write in your journal?

Dear Fellow Journalers,

This dilemma plagues New journal writers and often some of us too. Does it matter how often you write? Whether you write often depends on your purpose for writing. Is it to keep track of your garden or you journey through a different state? Are you experimenting with mindfulness? Are you trying new recipes? Are you tracking your goals or health symptoms?

If journal writing is pleasurable, then writing is its own reward. If it has become a chore then you are more likely to “forget” to write. Here are a few ways to keep writing consistently:

  • Make your journal writing more upbeat. Remind yourself about the good things in your life.
  • If an unpleasant issue comes up, remind yourself that ranting, venting, and reflection is a process just for you.
  • Write at the same time every day, if possible.
  • Think about what’s stopping you from writing and write about that.
  • Write a one-word journal entry that captures your day. Once you’ve determined that word, writing about it takes no time at all.

Remember, it only matters that you write consistently so 1) you don’t stop keeping a journal and 2) when you ‘re-read your journal there are enough entries to retrain the continuity of your life.

God doesn’t give you the people you want. He gives you the people you NEED. To help you, to hurt you, to leave you, to love you, to make you into the person you were meant to be.

Self-Care Kit

Dear Fellow Journalers,

A Self-Care Kit is  great thing for yourself and for others who are struggling. Sometimes when we do for others we end up healing ourselves too. You can use a basket or a decorative box. The items are anything that brings comfort and care.

So, some of those things are:

  • Weighted blanket or throw
  • Inspiring mug
  • Funny book
  • Essential oil
  • Journal
  • (In our case, a new pen)
  • Stuffed animal (I know!)
  • Headphones
  • Chocolate
  • Tea
  • Coloring book
  • Something personal
