Dear Fellow Journalers,
Well, I have procrastinated long enough! You’ve seen posts about covers, what you want in your journal, what to collect and now is the time to begin! Now, don’t think I’ve been idle all this time- I organized, I’ve made Easter cards, I’ve researched, I’ve played computer solitaire – WAIT – does this sound like PROCRASTINATION?? Oh, yeah, big time.
So I took a clue from a fellow journaler whose blog I follow. I opened my beautifully created cover and stared at the EMPTY PAGE! Finally, I took the plunge and wrote “about me” with contact information on the first page. I figured if I really personalize my journal, I’d be more committed to it.
I started thinking about the act of writing and the pleasure I get when re-reading what I’ve written. I could do this. Whenever I got distracted, I looked at my focus page. Oh, I forgot to tell you about that!
When I was pregnant, many years ago, I attended pre-natal classes at the local hospital. The nurses told us that we needed a focus picture to help us concentrate. It had to be of significance to us. Now over the years, that picture has changed! When I think of things that inspire me now, lighthouses, sunsets, beaches, children playing, nature – these things inspire me now. Last year, while driving home from work, I saw the most amazing sunset over the city. I don’t have a camera phone, so I couldn’t take a picture of it, but I felt that I might find one similar on Pinterest and I did. I posted it just now. My focus picture is a beautiful picture painted by God, a gift for all of us to see and share. The beautiful blended colors remind me of my life as a wife, mother, grandmother, friend, volunteer, blogger, card-maker. It was a perfect focus picture and it also reminded me of why I was sharing my journey with all of you and why telling you my story is so important.
