Dear Fellow Journalers,
December is the month of Generosity. The true spirit of the season lies in the giving of our time, talents and treasure. It is also a time of festivity and fun. When thinking of how to give of ourselves, there are examples all around us. Here are some that I have witnessed myself:
- A couple I know was downsizing their home of 40+ years. They had accumulated boxes of business supplies (copy paper, pens, staples, paper clips) They packed everything up and called an elementary school not far from their hometown and donated everything.
-
The owner of a florist shop donates her time teaching flower arranging to seniors at her local senior center. The crafters then take their creations and sell them at their annual holiday fair. One year the proceeds helped a member who had just lost her home to a fire.
-
Several women pack lunches for a “Midnight Run” to feed the homeless in a nearby city. Incidentally, they do this all the time, not just at Christmas.
-
Local teens read to youngsters at the library.
-
The owner of a small business donates his money (without fanfare) to help build a home for a disabled veteran.
The list goes on and I am sure you can add to it. In case you want to get in the spirit of generosity, here are some books to get you started:
Let’s all try to live lives of Generosity this month!
P.S. “The Bridge” will be broadcast on Dec. 6th at 8pm on the Hallmark Channel. If it is as good as the book, it will be a winner!
