Are you happy?

Dear Fellow Journalers,

Happiness and unhappiness are largely based on your perception. Last spring the eve of my birthday to be exact, our state was hit by a hurricane. We lost electricity, water internet, phones and tree limbs. Now this phenomenon occurs occasionally and we+’ve adapted over the years, but this time it was during a really hot season. At the time I thought it was the worst thing that could happen and on my birthday no less!  However, the next day we had some solutions (the local library allowed us to charge our devices and the Senior Citizen offered discounted meals.) I was happy.

Can you ‘re-set your idea of happy? Yup, yes you can.

Don’t think that you are a victim. Life hurts and is sometimes unfair but when I considered that there were others in my town who were worse off than me and I had solutions after-all I felt better.

Not everyone is out to get you. The guy who took your parking place ,- he probably was running late and never “saw” you. The lady who decided to get into the “12-14  grocery items only” with 25 items and you need to get the school to pick up your child is selfish but you are not the victim.

Give up control.  You can’t control the weather and you can’t control what people will do so why fight it? Avoid punishing your friends because they are disappointing you.

You can choose to be happy or unhappy. As for me, I choose happy.
