Keeping a journal

Dear Fellow Journalers,

If you’re a supporter of this blog, you’ve read over and over again that keeping a daily journal (whatever the type) is important. If you’re new to journaling, read on!

You know exactly what you want in life. But you can’t seem to get there. You have all the resolves -hundreds of them and yet like all “resolutions” you fail .J.M.Barrie wrote that “the life of every man is a diary in which he means to write one Story, and write another, and his humbled hour is when he compares the volume it is with what he vowed to make it.”

If you have a list of all your resolutions and try to attack them all at once, you’re going to fail. You have to tackle the problems one at a time. This is not the time to multitask!

A lot has been said about a “keystone habit” – a small change that comes over to all the other aspects of your life.

Journaling clears your emotions. Yesterday, what started out as a normal Wednesday became, in America a day where democracy was threatened, violence erupted, people died and all of us struggled to control our feelings. The narrative changed for all of us. So many questions, so many fears. The natural “go to” strategy for some is to lay blame on someone. The voice of reason is drowning admist the turmoil. We need to step back and write it out. Yelling and calling names are what little kids do not adults; not Americans; not calm, focused people. My bet is that your journaling forward will be very different. Venting on paper will help you fully experience and understand those emotions. Without a journal, intense emotional experiences can be crippling for days. Write and live.

This year we will talk about the following journal types:

Gratitude, reading, writing, prayer, letters to God, writing a Story, art, making a journal and “whatever YOUR interests are. Please contact me below.

Thanks,

~Sallie
