Dear Fellow Journalers,
I came across this post last year and had to share it with you. The new school year is almost upon us and this craft really fits the bill. I found it in crafts unleashed.

Supplies needed to make your own DIY journal teacher gift:
I started my DIY journal by decorating the edges with the ruler washi tape.
I placed a chalkboard label in the middle of the journal and wrote the teacher’s name using a chalk ink marker. I love chalk ink markers because once the ink is dried it doesn’t come off unless you use a little water. It gives you that look of chalk without the mess or worry of smudging! Win-win!
The paperclips were very easy to make. I used the Snap! Life brads and removed the metal prongs off the back of the brad by twisting them. I used a generous amount of hot glue and placed the paperclip to the back. I think it makes for some very fun and unique paper clips or even a place marker!
I placed the clips on different pages and wrapped the entire DIY journal with a big red ribbon. You can add a pencil or a nice pen for a finishing touch. I think it makes such a fun little DIY journal and can’t wait to give it to my son’s new teacher this year!

” To change ourselves effectively, we first had to change our perceptions.”
~ “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People”.
Dear Fellow Journalers,
The month of September is the month of being open to change. Some people cannot deal with change. They obstinately dig in their heels and loudly demand that everything remain the same. Duh?? Not happen’!
Things change everyday. The key to dealing with change is to be open to it. Change your perceptions of the “thing” and you would be amazed at what happens.
Over the summer, I decided to change some things in my life. I made subtle changes to this blog (Have you noticed?). I had been attending a Book Chat Program at my local library. The group of 10+ women meet once a month to discuss a book we have read concerning the pre-determined theme. I had long wanted to join a book club and jumped at the chance to learn more about books, authors etc. While I keep journals, I never kept a journal of the books I have read (other than on Good Reads). I began reading some of the recommended books of my new friends and became interested in other genre. Change is good and, yes, I have a new journal!
If you want to change direction in your life you may need GPS. Wishing is nice but the real change takes work. Your GPS can be friends, family, bloggers, (couldn’t resist!) and others who share your interests. My advice is to take on one thing at a time or you risk becoming overwhelmed or discouraged.
What direction are you going in?

Dear Fellow Journalers,
It’s 4:30 pm on a steamy hot day and I need to “chill out.” I could knit, put a puzzle together, or read a book. The choices are really endless. My choice is made. I will open the Magic Box of my childhood. This box contains 64 delightful creative “toys” each one made to inspire the artist in me.
Ok, I’ll end your suspicions! It’s a box of Crayola crayons!
When I was a kid, I loved crayoning. It was a peaceful creative hobby that I could take with me to my treehouse, my reading nook or on a car trip. Little did I know that my crayons would grow up to be markers and I would color my way into a business. My first set was a box of 8 basic colors (box still sold today) but I soon graduated to 48.
I did some research about Crayola and thought I would share:
Crayola was formerly called Binney and Smith and was founded in 1885 in Pennsylvania. It was originally an industrial pigment and supply company but soon focused on art producing product’s like chalk, crayon, markers and paints. Wax crayons came into existence in 1923 and they say the rest is history. To read more about the history of Crayola, please follow this link.https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crayola
According to Pinterest and Facebook, the newest adult hobby is crayoning. The coloring books, of course, are different and so are the colors. Adults must choose either blue bolt, bronze golden-yellow, infra red, mahogany, pumpkin, sea foam. Coloring books or pages are available on-line and these are some samples from Barnes and Noble.
The hobbies I previously mentioned are relaxing but there’s something magical when you envision the color selections for a picture. Colors “dance across the page. There are no mistakes. Coloring engages both sides of the brain – the tactical (feel of the crayon in your fingers) and the creative (colors you choose). Social media (Pinterest and Facebook) are now featuring colored pages and pages are available for downloading! There are now Coloring Meet-Ups!
Won’t you join me in this “new” creative hobby? I bet your journal page will really like you!
‘Til next time,
~Sallie
