Dear Fellow Journalers,
It’s that time of the year when our thoughts turn to Santa, snow, gifts – you know the drill! Sometimes, though, it takes us awhile to get our creative juices flowing so why not a Holiday Journal? This one can be all about preparing, memories, traditions and family.
Usually I end my journal posts with prompts, but in this case, I thought I’d start with them. So here they are:
2 Create a Top 10 List of your favorite Christmas songs. Download them onto your device and listen to them while you bake or write out cards.
Write about you favorite Christmas movie or book.
Finish the sentence: This Christmas I hope…
Create a new holiday tradition for your family. Write about what you would do and why.
What was the best Christmas present you ever received?
It’s your turn to plan Christmas dinner. What are you making?
Have you ever ridden in a “one horse open sleigh”?
What do Santa’s elves do on their day off?
Enjoy your day,
~Sallie

Dear Fellow Journalers,
Gratitude comes in many forms. When we were kids, our parents, wanting us to be grateful for everything they sacrificed for us, focused on the “stuff”. But as we reflect on this we learned that gratitude is not “stuff”, gratitude is an emotion. When we remember the happy memories of when we received the new bike, book, car etc., then we experienced gratitude.
My mother always insisted that when I received a gift I must write a thank you note. I can remember thinking that a verbal ‘thank you’ was enough, but as I grew older and I received written ‘thank you’ notes, I realized that gratitude expressed verbally or written was a source of happiness for me.
So, how do we pursue gratitude? Here are some things to consider:
As you write about your Gratitude Moments, you will quickly find that as you continue writing in your journal, your expectations and emotions will become positive and you will certainly be happier.
‘Til next time,

Be thankful for the many blessings you have and remember those to whom this day (and maybe the whole holiday season) will be difficult.
I am particularly grateful for you sharing your comments and posts with me this year.

Dear Fellow Journalers,
Remember this post?
What makes you happy? Did you realize that there are two major types of happiness? On one hand, there is the short-term type – for instance, you find a stamp, die-cut, or something “really great” happens and you erupt into a joyous “YES”!
The second type of happiness is long-term. You experience a deeper feeling of well-being, contentment and satisfaction with your life in general. It’s been said, that when we set a goal, no matter what it is and we work hard to achieve it, our happiness is doubled.
When I was in High School, I wanted a car. My parents said “they’d match every dollar I earned.” I can still remember the color of the car, the smell of the leather and the way the car responded to my touch. It was my “baby”! My Mom said I kept it cleaner than my room!
The lessons I learned affected the way I set goals and I appreciated the outcomes. I was grateful for the experiences.
Last month I spoke about making a journal. A journal, sketchbook or diary helps keep us all on track. One of the recurrent themes in my personal journal features the relationships I have with fellow crafters, journalers, family members and friends. I am so grateful to all of you who continually show me your support, your love and advice. I tell my rubber stamp students that we all share this great craft. We all learn from each other.
Pay it forward. Express your gratitude. As you go forward on your crafting journey, you’ll be surrounded by people who make your life richer.
