Prompts for your Memory Jar- writing a letter

Dear Fellow Journalers,

How long has it been since you wrote a letter? I don’t mean an email either. I got to thinking about that topic earlier this month. I remember a time before the internet (yes, I am ancient!) when I actually used nice stationery and a pen to write letters. Nowadays, the most writing with a pen that I do is writing sentiments inside greeting cards!

Write a Letter to:

  • Write a letter to someone you need to forgive.
  • Write a letter to someone who believed in you even when you didn’t believe in yourself.
  • Write a letter to be read by each of your loved ones after you’ve passed away.
  • Write a fan letter to your favorite actor/actress.
  • Write a letter to the editor of your favorite magazine telling them what features you would like to see included in the magazine.
  • Is there something you’re reluctant to tell someone?  Write a letter to help y0u organize your thoughts.
  • finally, write a letter to yourself. Tell yourself what you are going through emotionally at this time, what you want to do and what you have accomplished. If you want to write down a secret wish for the future.

‘Til next time,

~Sallie

Month of Family and Friendships

Dear Fellow Journalers,

May is the month of Family and Friendships. In our family, May is a very busy month! There’s Mothers’ Day, my birthday, our Granddaughter’s Birthday (the day after mine), and Memorial Day . So we celebrate all month the friendships and family relationships that bring us love and joy.

In thinking about this theme, I first concentrated on my family and how we are all connected. Each of us comes to our family with our unique talents, experiences and beliefs. While L. is still a toddler, she too is forming her own set of wants and needs and it will be some time before we see her true self emerge.

In all things you create this month remember what makes you happy. Write each “thing” down in your journal.   When darkness falls upon your door, your happiest memories will always be with you.

What does Spring mean to you?

Dear Fellow Journalers,

Here’s another post from Mary Beth. Enjoy!

~Sallie

When I was a youngster, I remember exclaiming “I can’t wait until I can walk in the rain!” To which my horrified mother responded “What????” Now to clarify, I remember that I had just seen the movie “Singing in the rain” and thought that Gene Kelly was the best dancer in the world. There were many rainy days to come in my life (literally and figuratively) after that day but when you are young and exuberant life is full of possibilities and a few mud puddles.

Mother Nature has arrived and our children are awaiting the warm days ahead. Casting seasonal allergies aside, we stepped out on a cool Saturday morning to explore the wooded landscape behind our home. We happened to live at the end of a cul-de-sack and had the advantage of the “woods”. We had bundled up the kids but as usual, hats were soon shed and “Mom, can you hold my gloves?” was the mantra for the moment.

Our sons were learning how to use magnifying glasses in science and began to check out the newly grown grass beneath our feet. The air was so clean and fresh that it reminded me of a long-ago day in college. I had just stepped out to get a breath of air and was standing by my dorm when I met my future husband.

The season of spring always signals new possibilities to me. I hope that I can always run to it with open hands and walk in the soothing rain drops of spring in New England. There will be days of new growth, spring crafts and the dreaded spring cleaning but for now, I’m setting down my pen and opening up the windows of my life to the newness and wonders of spring!

~~~Mary Beth, wife, Mom and lover of Springtime.
