Be not afraid

Dear Fellow Journalers,

Hope is not a gimmick. In these trying times, I hope I have given you some new ways of coping or at the very least a glimpse of which way you can travel back to your roots -the very essence of your very best self.

Stay well.

How to stop the train

Dear Fellow Journalers,

There’s a train going 100 xxx m/h and we’re all on it. Each time the conductor slows down, we passengers think we can get off, but no – there’s a new chaotic situation that’s come aboard. We’re surrounded by masked and silent people; we have hungry, unemployed and desperate people all around us. The latest chaotic stopover is to pick up some reporters who tell us of more violence in our streets. Do we really want to get of the train?

We have to – we all have to heal. For those of you who were around during “911” you may remember a courageous young man who led his fellow passengers against the terrorists who had hijacked their plane.Their rally cry was “Let’s roll!”

Well folks, it’s time to get off the train, off despair and hopelessness. The conductor has some ideas  for you to try:

  1. Establish a sense of controlled calm in your life. Yoga, exercise, reading, writing,  creative pursuits.
  2. Mediation
  3. Write or read poetry
  4. Listen to music
  5. Find a place of peace in your mind’s eye and go there during chaotic times.
  6. Write a thank you note to someone.
  7. Make cards for your friends (thinking of you)
  8. Be peaceful. Be well.

Mindfulness prompts for August

Dear Fellow Journalers,

Here are some prom prompts for this month. They are a bit different from previous months due to our “New Normal”.

  1. What am I grateful for today?
  2. Who am I checking on today? (Pick 3 people)
  3. It’s not social distance we need, it’s social solidarity while we maintain physical distancing.
  4. What expectation of “normal” am zzz I letting go of today?
  5. How am I getting outside today?
  6. How am I moving my body today?
  7. What beauty am I creating, cultivating, or inviting in today?

Writing in the midst of Covid19

Dear Felllow Journalers,

It’s been a long time since I’ve written anything about mindfulness. Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about ways to cope with all the negative feelings I’ve been having. As this forced isolation goes on, and some  areas reopen, we  all hold our collective  breath and hope that life will go back to normal. There are so many things that try to drive us down. Death and fear, loneliness and isolation, lack of food and jobs, anger and violence. We wonder if the world is coming to an end. We loose hope. We think that there are no longer any good people in the world.

We all try and find new ways to cope. It’s to hot to craft so I write stories. A friend of mine tries out new recipes,  a neighbor makes scrapbooks, in short, we all try to forget. Some of us, those not working, spend a lot more time watching tv.

So, this month, I thought I’d go back to my roots. More ideas about getting ourselves to hope, to love, to join the human race- to fight stress, to listen to music and to find ourselves, our best selves.
